Good Morning.

"They're all bad, but Fox is the absolute worst," said Tracy Blevins, 32, a New York City resident. "The people who report the news aren't journalists. They just say what the government tells them to say." When protesters were near the Fox News Building, Fox changed their outside news ticker to chide the protestors: "War protester auditions here today ... thanks for coming!" read one message. "Who won your right to show up here today?" another questioned. "Protesters or soldiers?" Said a third: "How do you keep a war protester in suspense? Ignore them."

Still another read: "Attention protesters: the Michael Moore Fan Club meets Thursday at a phone booth at Sixth Avenue and 50th Street" - a reference to the film maker who denounced the war while accepting an Oscar on Sunday night for his documentary "Bowling for Columbine."

The protesters said Fox's sentiments only proved their point: that media coverage, in particular among the television networks, is so biased as to be unbelievable. Fox New is the worst of the networks for their biased reporting and attitudes. They certainly don't have to agree with the protesters, but news is far more respected without an agenda.

After reading a blog this morning and seeing all the many different interpretations of one particular statement someone made, I am reminded of a simple truth I once learned, which is this:

A mother asks each of her three children to bring her some milk. The first child brings her a glass of milk. The second child brings her a whole jug of milk. And the third child brings her a cow. All three children heard the same request from their Mother and all three interpreted it in their own way.

Good Morning. I woke up to a dusting of snow this morning. It was expected, but my head was already wrapped up in Spring.

"Robert Crumb the visionary behind underground commix, is a reluctant hero of his generation." Good article. I have a lot of respect for Crumb. He's one of the very few who absolutely stayed true to his art and to himself.

If you want to look at a superior collection of photographs, check out Getty Images. I believe some photos you can use and some are copywrited. Prize-winning photo-journalists have pics here, too.

My husband is doing so well on his dietary changes since his diabetes diagnosis. I thought it'd be a much harder sell than it's been. Although we're still trying to come up with more good ideas for healthier low-fat, low sugar, low sodium meals. Guess I can search online for that.

Warren Zevon's new studio album, which has the working title of "My Dirty Life and Times," is nearing completion and will be his final album, as he was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer in August.. The singer-songwriter plans to add some more vocals over the next couple weeks. Tons of entertainers have made contributions to this album.

Happy Birthday. Eric Clapton is 58 today.

"When I was drinking, I used to wonder if the bartenders were actually attractive or if it was their proximity to the Divine Elixir that made them attractive; nowadays I wonder if the counter-men at Sweet Inspirations are really cute, or if it is the exquisite pastry they give me that lends an extra aura of tastiness." This is just one of the reasons I enjoy reading Marlene Manners. She paints such lovely pictures with her words.

Good morning. I still wish for peace.....

Singer Perry Farrell (Jane's Addiction) is 44 today.

Camp Freddy made their national TV debut on ABC's the Jimmy Kimmel Live show on Friday March 28th. I missed it, damnit. Camp Freddy is made up of: Dave Navarro, guitar; Billy Morrison, guitar; Scot Ford, bass; Matt Sorum, drums, Donovan Leitch, lead vocals.

Pics of Gwen and Gavin in London with their dog, Winston.

Anyone seen BlogShares? Not had the time to really look into it, but it says it's a fantasy stock market for weblogs. I'm still leary of stock markets. I've been out for sometime now. And ouch, what a penalty.

Democrat Gary Hart has joined the Blogging community as part of his strategy for Democratic contender in 2004. There's fodder for the right wing masses, if I ever saw it. That loud buzzing sound you hear is the sound of bandwidth humming as the fanatic right zooms in to check him for accuracy and spelling errors. I give him a week before he's forced to pull his comments. But hope he doesn't cave.

I still wish for peace.....Good Morning

a few observations
Aloha Friday, to Kane, and all the other folks in Hawaii, US.

Why do men think women can locate any missing object? Have you ever noticed that? They're always asking, "Have you seen the________?" Or "Have you see my ________? (fill in the blank) They must think women have some type of uterine tracking device that can zero in on lost items. Instead of a GPS, maybe a GPV-- Global Positioning Vagina?

Duke basketball days are over for this season. Damn. They lost 69 - 65 against Kansas, who consistently have a good team.

I saw where some doofusses (just what IS the plural of doofus?) were boycotting French products. So they......bought some French wine and then they poured it out. I said, they bought some French wine.....Isn't the whole thing behind boycotting is you actually DONT buy the product? I don't see anything wrong with boycotting Celine Dion and her new Las Vegas show. That's gotta be the 2nd worst thing happening in a desert right now.

Vital Info On Iraqi Chemical Weapons Provided By U.S. Company That Made Them
BALTIMORE-The Pentagon has obtained vital information on Iraqi chemical weapons from Alcolac International, the Baltimore-based company that sold them to the Mideast nation in the '80s. "It's terrifying what Iraq has," Pentagon spokesman James Reese said Monday. "Saddam possesses massive stockpiles of everything from ethylene to thiodiglycol, according to sales records provided by Alcolac." The Pentagon has also been collecting key intelligence on Iraqi nuclear weapons and guidance systems from Honeywell, Unisys, and other former U.S. companies that supplied them to Iraq. My husband went to the doctor yesterday and found out that he has diabetes. We're just learning about diabetes and I'm a little worried. I'm glad he went so we know for sure what's wrong and can regulate it. Now, if I can get him to stick to a reasonable diet and get back into his yoga. He's the one that got me interested in yoga. *He also got some pills to take daily for two weeks and then a checkup to see how/if they're working. But they said he'll be on some type of meds for the rest of his life. [*edited @ 9:44]

Good News Another missing girl's been found in Mexico after 4 years. She's from North Carolina. A few days ago, a 14 year old girl, who left her home with a much older man under strange circumstances, was also found safe in California. And, of course, Elizabeth Smart is home safely with her family now. Hopefully, this good news rally can continue.

More Weblog Stuff The Addicted Bloggers was a web ring I joined right when I first saw it. It was a ring for people who have battled alcoholism and/or drug addiction. As far as I know everyone on the list is in recovery, clean, and doing very well. Most of you know my story: (nutshell) I was a huge drug addict and finally quit all drugs in June 1991 and have been clean ever since then. I met some great people there that I talk to quite often.

Quote For Today
Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it. ~Buddha

**Do you ping? Some blogging systems will automatically ping you, like Movable Type and Radioland and Blogger Pro, (I believe all these do) but many of us have to ping ourselves manually. For those not familiar with "pinging", it's a way of listing your site after you update it, so that others will know you've recently updated your weblog. Many who use blogrolling.com can signify an updated site. I use an * (asterisk) beside the recently updated ones. Anybody can ping. To manually ping your own site after posting/updating, bookmark this site: http://newhome.weblogs.com/pingSiteForm, and fill in the name of your site first, and then the address of your site. That's it.
**New stuff! Now getting Blogspot updates integrated into the recently updated feeds. This is a beta feature and only updates once an hour right now. Like all beta features let me know if you notice any wonkiness. This will be updating more often in the near future. I just read this on the Blogrolling site; it was written on Sunday, Mar 23.

Per Daily Kos: "No Scuds. No WMDs. No attacks on Israel. But AK-47s, RPGs and pickup trucks. Thank the gods I'm being "defended" (per Bush) from these pickup trucks of mass destruction. I will definitely sleep better tonight.

Finally got this damn border to work on a picture. Meg has shown us many border types to try out on her site. And has many other web site codes/scripts you can try out. I had my code on about 4 lines after cutting and pasting it from her site, when it would only work if I put the code out in as long a line as possible. Also combined the 'image to the left of text' code I also learned to do from her site. The beige background on my posts I also learned over there. Thanks, Michelle.

And while I'm thinking about it.... most of you know my political viewpoint leans to the left, but I'd like to point out that I welcome all opinions here and I try to be respectful of everyone and expect such treatment in return. I have too much love inside me and I'm too much of a peace lover to shut anyone out. It's the human spirit I'm interested in; not your political persuasion. But, no hitting below the belt, please.

Good Morning. I still wish for peace.....

"Why are you here in this country? Are you trying to take over? Are you going to take our country forever? Are the Israelis coming next? Are you here to steal our oil? When are you going to get out?" This is the other side of the news we've been getting about Iraquis dancing in the streets with glee since seeing American soldiers. Pardon me for being more than a little cynical, but I've been watching my television news do this for many decades now. I just want the truth.

Companies secretly bid to rebuild Iraq. The USAID contract is filled with details about plans to construct Iraqi schools, airports, roads, bridges, hospitals, power plants and more. Things like this are why I'm a little cynical.

The TV War Coverage Drinking Game I mentioned last week, suggests taking a drink when certain popular phrases are mentioned. Like, "WMD", "shock and awe", "regime change", "9-11", "embedded". I added "capitulation" to their list. Today I might add:" pockets of resistance". No discussion about popular phrases can be complete without my favorite non-phrase, "that said", and "that being said", "having said that". Does anyone know how stupid that sounds? If you have ever uttered one of those phrases, Stop It. Now. It adds nothing to the conversation and makes you look like the lemming that you are. {long-time blogging buddies will recognize this rant.}

Most bloggers have rings, cliques, groups we belong to, as do I. So I thought if I could remember, I'd try to spotlight one of them occasionally. Today I'll mention the Ageless Project. When I first visited their site over a year ago, I looked up other weblogs to see if there were people as old as me were others who had birthdays close to mine. And there were. So I stopped by a few of them and introduced myself. I still talk to these folks almost daily and we have a great online friendship.

Are You Dizzy From The Spin Yet?
According to a CNN-USA Today-Gallup Poll, 76% of Americans approve of the US going to war in Iraq. Where do they find these people to poll? Rush Limbaugh's Young Republican pancake breakfast? Halliburton? I believe what I can see. And I've seen over 300,000 protesters against the war in New York. Over 200,000 protesters in Chicago, over 200,000 in LA, over 200,000 in San Francisco, Over 100,000 in Atlanta, over 100,000 in Seattle. On Saturday, (yesterday) we probably had at least 2,000,000 protesters speaking out against the war. The largest protest rally I saw for the war was in Auburn, Ind, and they had 15,000. There are many more on both sides I'm sure I've left out, but the point is there seem to be many people against the war than for the war in the US.

I like how Theo explains it. His heart aches; and when he opens his mouth to speak, nothing comes out. My heart aches, too. I'm also have trouble expressing myself. And I'm saddened, ashamed, and anxious but not poisoned by rage and hate. It's interesting to see people express their disgust with this war in so many different ways.

The US tv news is so fucked up and one-sided, {except for the BBC news,} so to get the bigger picture, I must find other news online. Going outside the US for news I find less of an agenda and can extrapolate a few golden nuggets to form my own conclusions. If my mind is saturated with US news, I want to read Arab, Australia and UK news.

I still wish for peace.....

I'm sitting here with two candles burning and the hum of the television's war reports are on in the background. I'm tired of watching the news, but I can't stop either. I've been numb for the past few days. I'm digesting and processing this vulgar war in Iraq and the war in the streets as police use violence against peaceful protesters. This processing and digesting is my calm before the storm. Soon cynicism will pay me a visit and I'll brace for the rage within.

After the initial bombing in Iraq when they thought they'd located Saddam and/or his sons, medical personnel were summoned to that location soon after the bombs stopped. Speculation is that the medical attention was either for Saddam or his sons. [via: washington post]

Good Morning... ! I just returned from South Carolina and almost ran over a downed tree in front of Furman University. It wasn't quite daylight at 6:00 and it raining very hard. Luckily, a guy was in the road in a white shirt waving his arms to attract my (and others) attention so I was able to stop in time---barely. The tree covered both lanes of traffic, and I went around in the grass. I think I'm still shook up and consider myself very lucky. Later on this morning, I heard there were 3 wrecks at that same site.

If you want to support the Dixie Chicks and their right to free speech, go sign the petition.

Update on Dena: She got out of the hospital yesterday and they believe an artery was "nicked" when she underwent a biopsy last Friday. After that procedure is when her troubles began. She's very tender and they're hoping it'll heal if she takes it easy for a few days. Thank you so much for you good wishes and prayers.

Just as cartoons are the children of television's big family, I think 24-hour news programs are the daughters of TV. CNN is the first born daughter; a real southern belle. On the fast track after bursting through the glass ceiling at her Fortune 500 job, she struck out on her own and created her own company. Blue eye shadow-wearing, lip-smacking, 42 year old renewed virgin and middle sister, FOX, has just returned from her latest labia piercing. She's always gossiping and stirring up trouble in the family, doing something outrageous to attract everyone's attention. Returning from her trip to the Rainforest is the baby of the family, MSNBC. The life of the party, and Harley-riding dare-devil is always willing to take a chance. Her next adventure will include all night gambling in Monoco, and hiking with aborigines in the Outback.

Good Morning...

MoveOn is suggesting we put lights in our windows to keep the light of reason and hope burning, to let others know that they are not alone, and to show the way home to the young men and women who are on their way to Iraq. If you will light a candle or even string some old Christmas lights, stop by and sign their list.

Protesting against the war this time around is so much different than the protesting I did in the late 60's, early 70's. Of course, it was a different time. But, I can now separate the man or woman from the mission. Before, I not only protested the Vietnam war, I protested against everyone who was fighting for it. Loudly. I hated all the participants. Now, I have a slightly different opinion of the soldiers, airmen, marines, etc. I don't know if they've changed, but I'm not fueled by hate for anything. Years ago, many protests were organized by radical groups; now, just a few. College protests and rock concerts were accompanied by the National Guard or cops in riot gear on a regular basis. Not only was the war an issue, but women's rights were being born; civil rights were in their infancy. There was a lot of hate, lots of drugs, lots of sex, lots of violence. A very painful time to grow up in.

A time of hope, then disillusionment, hope, disillusionment.
Hope when we all came together to protest the unfairness of Vietnam, when we all dug Jimi, Dylan, Zeppelin, the Stones; getting high and high hopes of an intellectual, spiritual revolution that could change the world.
Disillusionment, with Watergate, Nixon, Dead Kennedys, Watts.
Hope again; the strength we had at Woodstock, the march on the Washington Monument, and the newfound Equal Rights Amendment.
Disillusionment again; Four Dead in Ohio, and Martin Luther King shot, riots and fires in the streets. A very different time, indeed.

Good Morning... ! To my Irish family and friends, enjoy your day. (Husband is 1/2 Irish.)
Happy St Patrick's Day!

Global Candlelight Vigil photos here. We stood in the drizzle in front of the old Courthouse on Main Street, and listened to prayers of peace and sang songs. We took turns holding an umbrella over a guy playing the guitar. A few had brought signs, but I got the impression that they were discouraged. A small, but dedicated group. Although we just had around 30 sign up and over 200 showed up. (I went to the event in nearby Hendersonville, NC.) I stayed until I heard them fire up "Kumbaya", and with the steady rain, it was time for me to go. But not before we exchanged phone numbers and are making plans to meet again soon.

I don't know how Duke pulled it off, but they won the ACC Championship and are going to the NCAA playoffs. I don't expect them to do very well. I feel they were lucky to get this far this year.

A new Jimi Hendrix, R & B tribute, Power Of Soul, will be released later this year on MCA Records.

**UPDATE: Kane asked yesterday how old Sky (my daughter) is. And others have asked me about her name, so I thought I'd talk about my sweet girl a bit. Her first and middle name were originally Schuyler Laurel. 'Schuyler' got changed to 'Skyler' because it was much simpler for her and her friends. Most of her friends call her Skyler, but her family calls her Sky or Skylaurel. And she'll be 15 in July.

I thank my lucky stars I'm not superstitious.

Good Morning... !

MoveOn.org and the Win Without War coalition, together with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and many faith-based organizations, are calling this vigil, and we need your help. Beginning in New Zealand, this will be a rolling wave of candlelight gatherings that will quickly cross the globe.

Join with millions of others around the globe and in your community. Join or schedule a candlelight vigil for peace in your city here: www.GlobalVigil.com There are a few scheduled in my area and I'll be out there at 7:00 with my daughter. It's not too late to sign up; you'll just be told specifically what to expect and where to meet.

Chinese Censoring The Rolling Stones
The Rolling Stones will be playing two historical concerts in China, but four of their most famous songs will be missing. The Chinese government has deemed them inappropriate. The band were told they cannot play Brown Sugar, Honky Tonk Woman, Beast of Burden and Let's Spend the Night Together, said Chen Jixin, head of Beijing Time New Century Entertainment. The Stones are due to play two concerts in the country, in Shanghai on 1 April and in Beijing on 4 April. Chen said she did not know why the government had banned the four songs. The same four were cut from the Chinese release of the band's last compilation album, 40 Licks, by the China culture ministry.

ACC Basketball Tournament today at 1:00 for all the marbles. Between Duke and NC State.

Sky's squirting the pets with a water bottle and they're all scrambling to hide behind me at once. My husband and I are hoping she'll meet a nice punk rocker/skateboarder who makes all A's someday.

Good Morning... !

Wow. What fascinating reading from blogger, Kevin Sites, an award-winning CNN correspondent in Iraq. Go take a look if you haven't already. [via: blogdex]

In April last year, I mentioned a girl I knew from college. Her name was Xenia Zed. I've seen twice this past year where someone has searched my site for her name. But probably leave scratching their head because I didn't have many details. So, Xenia, if you visit again, maybe I can explain a little better. We were both Art majors. I stayed in Dossett Hall at ETSU my first year with Arfus Apple and Suzy Creamcheese and Kathy Motley and played the twelve-string. I had an old navy VW van I'd painted the moon and stars on. You had that cream Volvo then. I believe we first met when we had a Drawing Class together or at a party at Montrose and I believe I was crazy about Phil Bryant at the time. I thought he looked like Jim Morrison; fringed suede pants and all. Email me if you get the chance. I hope you are well.

Crystal, aka Crink, has a post about her dear father who sadly passed away this week. He had a favorite saying that they've put on his stone: "I didn't come to sit in the saddle. I came to make the ride." I bet he was one hell of a guy.

Stopping by her site reminded me of another site she's mentioned before. The Asian Prince's site. Ever heard of it? I'm not quite sure what to make of it, but do visit with tongue firmly planted in cheek. Crink is an interesting southern girl. She has a regular day job, and is also the lead singer of a local band in South Carolina. You can read more about all that at her site.

Good Morning.... !

Some people have begun Spring Cleaning. Anyone else feeling domestically productive lately? I'm not. After taking care of some personal business/errands today, and doing my daily exercise, {although I do get plenty of it jumping to conclusions, pushing my luck and dodging deadlines.} I just may run thru this house like a wild woman. Then again, I may just sit on my arse and come visit my favorite sites today. Okay by you?

Good Morning... !

I just don't get it. I LOVED school and always made good grades. Same with my husband. But our teenage daughter doesn't care one iota about academics. She loves soccer and other sports and singing and art. But we cannot get her interested in much else. She's been treated for ADHD last year and there was no improvement. And we've been round and round with teachers, and doctors. I don't know how to get her to take it seriously.

What great news about Elizabeth Smart. I wonder if she slept in the same room and bed that she slept in when she was last at home. I wonder if her parents kept peaking in on her watching her sleep. I wonder if Elizabeth woke in the middle of the night and remembered she was finally home. It's very heart warming to see her parents finally smiling. I can't even fathom how I'd hold up if that happened to my almost 15 year old daughter.

Writer, Tom Robbins, weighs in on the inevitable Iraq war. "Don't get me wrong-I don't want American soldiers killed. But I don't want Iraqis killed, either. I'm just not one of those people who believes that American lives are more valuable than the lives of others." I had just finished re-reading Jitterbug Perfume by him. With so many 24 hr news shows, it seems every celebrity and pseudo-celeb gets questioned about Iraq.

Good Morning... !

Happy Birthday, Alex!

Hope it was a special day for you.

I'm not usually a procrastinator. Except each year at tax time. I've always done my own taxes and this will be my fourth year of filing online. It's much more convenient and inexpensive. Last year was the first time I had to apply for an extention simply because I really dread getting started and kept putting it off. But I really should get started on it soon.

In honor of Mr Natural's posted pic today, here's an R Crumb site with him, Fritz the Cat and the rest of the crew. We used to buy these comics when they came out and laugh like hell for days. I bet these are very collectible now.

'Do Not Call' is now a law. Those who call listed people could be fined up to $11,000 for each violation. Telemarketers say this could put them out of business. Oh, really?

Happy Birthday, March 12
»James Taylor - in 1948 (age 55) "The Best Of James Taylor", a new Warner Brothers JT collection due for release April 8.
»Paul Kantner - of Jefferson Airplane/Starship fame in 1942 (age 61)
»Johnny Knoxville had a birthday yesterday. He celebrated by holding his balls over the candles on his cake.

This is How We Cut & Paste
»Keywest Webcams. Watching one of these could be a stress-buster.
»Like yardsales? This site has national listings for yard sales, thrift stores, etc.
»I don't know how many times I've tried in vain to tie on a Japanese loincloth, but can't find my instructions.
»Food is icky, tables are sticky, waitress has a hickey, stay home if you're picky. This and other outtakes from the Zagat Restaurant Guide.
»Fresh out of silly toys and novelty items?
»Neil Young is added to the list of groups appearing at Bonnaro 2003, along with Flaming Lips, Alyson Krauss, the Meters, and others. The Meters were very cool when I saw them years ago with the Stones.

Very rarely is a legendary band able to come up with new, credible material. Jam band progenitors the Allman Brothers have done better than that, tapping into some of the spark that made them one of the most influential American bands of their time. 'Hittin' The Note' is out March 18. Pretty good review on Amazon. I wonder if this will be any good. Or just sound old and trite.

Quotes For Today
"I ask not for a lighter burden, but for broader shoulders."
~Jewish Proverb
"We cannot change anything until we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses."

Good Morning... !

»How great that Afghanistan got internet access Monday. Soon they'll have spam and porn just like the rest of us.

»Is it safe to wear 'Celine' and other colognes?
"Is that Canadian Bacon No. 5?" "Oui," I reply, as a gleaming-eyed young broker rises to give me his seat. "Please sit down," he implores. "You smell so good, like a warm fireplace or a new baby. No, even better--you smell like a new baby in a warm fireplace."

»New cigarettes called Quest, is now available. They come in low nicotine, extra-low nicotine and nicotine-free packs, and could help you quit smoking. They're available in most states and soon should be nationwide and beyond. But, they aren't in my state of North Carolina yet. Couldn't have anything to do with us leading the country in tobacco farming, could it?

»How did this Bush parody site slip by me? I thought I'd seen them all.

»Which Six Feet Under Character Are You?

»WTF is a Vinnie and why does he care more about menstruation that I do? (let's be on the safe side and say, "NOT safe for work".)

»I was looking at Vietnam era posters online and ran across some I'd forgotten about. There's: "Would you buy a used war from this man?" A poster for a rally with Nixon pictured. "Make Love, Not War." "What If They Gave A War And Nobody Came?" If we go to war, will there be new slogans and posters printed up? I wonder if there'll be a flurry of protest songs and sit-ins and if the draft will be implemented. Will there be conscientious objectors, and people burning draft cards? Some may argue that the demonstrations and songs and teach-ins and love-ins and riots and concerts and speeches and posters did not alter the course of American foreign policy before. I know better.

Quote For Today
Some people believe that holding on and hanging in there are signs of great strength. However, there are times when it takes much more strength to know when to let go. ~Anon

What the hell, go and put all your eggs in one basket.

Good Morning...

Caution: Real Feelings Ahead
My husband doesn't feel well. It's no real secret that our marriage isn't the best in the universe, hell, we've not slept in the same bed or room for 15 years, but I sure don't want him to be sick either. I'd like for him to get his sugar checked to rule out diabetes, hopefully. He's always extremely thirsty, generally feels bad all over and has these spasms occasionally that really scare me. He's one of these guys who never sees a doctor, and probably never will and rarely complains about feeling sick. I know a visit to a doctor would either dispell any fears we have or maybe heal what ails him. Maybe I can persuade him to go this time.

Quotes Of The Day
"It's important to our friends to believe that we are unreservedly frank with them, and important to our friendship that we are not."
~Mignon McLaughlin

"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar."
~Julius Caesar

Well, this day's been a total waste of makeup.

Good Morning...

Old movies I've watched again lately that didn't stand the test of time. Ned Kelly. Still painful to watch, but it IS Mick as a young man. A Clockwork Orange. It helped to have the actual glossary that came with the book. I was so stoned when I saw it the first time in Daytona Beach, (or was it Fort Lauderdale?) that the surrounding experience glorified the whole movie for me. But, Malcolm MacDowell was rushed to the head of coolness in one fell swoop. And would have stayed there until I happened to see him on Fantasy Island. And Crossroads. I fussed over it at one time, and now it's just corny to me.

Was I so fickle at 15? My wonderful daughter can seem like Linda Blair in the Exorcist one minute, and be all sweetness and light the next minute. Seriously. She can quickly change her mood and I'm left shaking my head. I seem to remember myself being consistently bitchy or consistently aloof. But she can go from zero to bitch in under 6 seconds. I'm still too stunned to talk to her about it. I don't know if an embrace or a duck 'n' cover is in order. But I still tell her every single night, "I love you just the way you are", even if it does conjur up a pukefest in her mind.

I want some great satirist to speak for our country. But, it won't be Bill Maher. Although he's come closer than most, there's just no heart, or passion there. After watching Mort Sahl, Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, and George Carlin, the bar is still up there pretty high. I expect a great deal out of my political satirists.

Jimmy Carter can't NOT speak his heart on the upcoming war. This should be required reading for everyone.

MoDo's 'Xanax Cowboy' column agrees with my Bush speech assessment of him calling forth the 'Thorazine Salute'.

A company tied to Vice President Dick Cheney has won a Pentagon contract for advice on rebuilding Iraq's oil fields after a possible war.

Good Morning... it's Friday! I really appreciate your stopping by.

The If or WHEN Shuffle
I really enjoy watching people in the adminstration, etc, squirm when trying to remember to say "IF or WHEN we go to war". Most notably at news conferences with Rumsfield, Ari Fleischer, Tommy Franks; or television news shows. The delicate dance of trying to say IF or WHEN, wink, wink we go to war without flinching, with as much authority as they can muster. I imagine them in a huddle before the game, er news conference, saying, "Do not say 'when we go in next week, Ari.' If or when, if or when. OK. Put me in coach." These are very bright people, but when you have your mind dead set [intended] on one idea, and are questioned relentlessly about it, it can't be easy to jump circuit and lie midstream. Occasionally, they'll slip up and hastily correct themselves. Soon followed by the facial tick, shoe-shufflin', chin-rubbin', and "I'll take one more question" or "that's all, folks, Thank You". If or WHEN my aching ass.

The Color Of Money
The federal government will unveil a new $20 bill that will introduce a predominant but subtle color into the background, marking the first time in modern history that a U.S. bill will feature a color other than green. It's coming out on the 27th of March. I wonder what color they'll use. Blue? [via: CNN]

British troops had been told an invasion of Iraq would begin on March 17, with a huge bombing campaign being launched four days earlier, the Daily Express in London has reported.

Good Morning... or is it?

I pulled my old desk fan out of storage and placed it on my desk yesterday. That's a good sign. No. Not hot flashes, the coming Spring.

Music News
The Donnas were added to the lineup of 2003's Lollapalooza. The band joins Jane's Addiction, Incubus, Queens Of The Stone Age, Audioslave, Jurassic 5, and others. Jane's Addiction frontman and Lollapalooza founder Perry Farrell said in a statement: "I bought a pair of silk pajamas for the road because we're going to have a Lollapajama party with the Donnas." Or they could braid each other's hair. [via: mi2n.]

A three-CD collection of Led Zeppelin concert recordings titled How the West Was Won is tentatively scheduled for a May 27 release. A companion two-DVD set also is expected around that date. In other news, drummer Michael Lee -- who previously has played with Zeppelin's Robert Plant and Jimmy Page -- has been tapped to play on Thin Lizzy's upcoming spring tour. There's a band I've not thought about in some time. I really liked them in the mid-seventies. [via: blabbermouth]

Dave Gilmour of Pink Floyd is 56 today.

Cool photo of German conservative opposition leader Angela Merkel emerging from the buttocks of Uncle Sam. Budding US papier mache makers, take your cue and go!

My archives and my permalink's sure are giving me a hard time. Truthfully, it's because I'm a dumbass and don't know what I'm doing. This looks like a job for Bailey's on the rocks. Then I'll revisit that coding hell. I remember a simpler time when Blogger did all the work for me. Now, I had to go and get my own website and it's turning into a DIY nightmare. But it's worth it. It's so worth it when you finally make it work. If that ever happens, I'll let you know.

I was proud that students of Asheville High and TC Roberson High {here in NC} walked out yesterday in protest of possible war with Iraq. They're getting a first hand look at what collective voices going against the administration will do. They're also getting various suspensions for it, though. The students interviewed said it was worth it.

Good Morning...

Today is Ash Wednesday. Did anyone give up anything for Lent?

On this Ash Wednesday, protesting will take many forms. All over the nation, college and high school students will show their growing support against the pending Iraq war by walking out of school at 1:00 today in a coordinated effort called, National Student Strike for Books Not Bombs. Our local high school and university are participating. Some others will walk out of work. Students in Australia have already staged their walk outs today.

This led to a discussion between my husband and I about walkouts in high school. My high school had them as soon as I began my freshman year. The first one I participated in was when they had finally closed down the old, dilapidated, all-black school and moved the students to our newer, better equipped high school. No one really knew what to make of it, but when there was talk of moving them back someplace else, that fueled the first walkout. The black and white students walked out and spoke with one voice that day. It was 9:00 am, the hallways were filling up and as far as I could tell, the whole damn school walked out. The administration was astonished. And we felt very powerful and full of hope that we were on a course to change the world of all it's injustice. We were heard that day. Looking back, I know now that that day was a turning point in my life.

For the twisted little kid in you. Yes, you.

MoveOn has an emergency appeal to the UN Security Council to back tough inspections, not war. You can sign that petition here until Thursday.

Blogging News
Bloggers with new Spring designs......Anne has a new design. So does Lynn, and Serenity! And dear Maggie says she is going to cut down on her blogging time. Everytime I see new templates popping up, I think I want to change mine, too. So I search and search and don't see anything that pops out at me. In two years of consistent blogging, I've only used two different templates for EBC.

Fear And Loathing In The Carribean
Johnny Depp is currently filming a new movie called, Pirates Of The Carribean, after the amusement park ride. The crew caught Depp in full on campy pirate gear, looking sort of like he just came from a parade on Christopher Street in Manhattan's West Village, and speaking in his "pirate accent." Pictures from the set can be seen here. Depp also can be seen occasionally at the Viper Room on Sunset in LA, which he owns. I recently viewed "Blow" for the 2nd time on digital cable. I may have seen everything he's done, come to think of it.

I heard the new Fleetwood Mac song, 'Peacekeeper' from 'Say You Will' last night. And I really like it. Great harmonies, as usual. Same great Fleetwood Mac sound, the 2003 version. Christine McVie has retired from the group.

If someone doesn't swoop down soon and rescue me from this hell that is my life, I'm breezing outta here with the magic bean salesman.

Stick figure is from Maggie. She made this one for me almost a year ago and I changed her color.
