WebTrail - Thunderbolt Pagoda, NCAA, Droopy C**k, Used Condoms, Magick, Tantric Popart

"...so High '60s that you emerge from its 20-minute vision perched full-lotus on a cloud of incense, chatting with a white rabbit and smoking a banana." The ultimate comic-book attraction, however, is Ira Cohen's 1968 Invasion of Thunderbolt Pagoda—part "Dr. Strange," part Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome. Directed by Ira Cohen Link

From the page: "Do you mean Droopy C**k?" "It was as if I'd been smacked with a right hook. I started repeating 'Drew Peacock' over and over again. Then I thought - what have we done?" Link

AOL had this link on their homepage today about "The Cheapest Person I Know". One person washes and re-uses paper plates. One person orders water at a restaurant, adds lemon and sugar that's already on the table to make lemonade -- all for the price of a glass of water. Someone glued a quarter to the floor to razz their co-worker who finally bought a $2.00 device to pry it up. But the worst frugal item so far has got to be the one that re-uses condoms. Washes them out and re-uses them. That ain't frugal. That's just plain stupid.

Yeah... I know. Cunning, baffling, etc, etc.

My daughter and her friends have gone to see HellBoy. And I'm here watching the NCAA Playoffs. GA Tech just won and the U-Conn/Duke game just began.

I've really been slack about blog visiting lately so I've got to catch up on reading some of my blogroll favorites tonight while watching the basketball game and more tomorrow when time permits.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day
To my Irish friends. Have yourself a blast. Another excuse for me to brag about my sobriety; a proud feat in itself. {following meg's advice, I used the color name (darkgreen) instead of numbers that should work in all browsers. There are sixteen different colors you can code with their color name instead of numbers. }

Will Duke go all the way? You can fill out your NCAA Basketball tourney bracket at Yahoo! And just for the hell of it, my Final Four picks today are:

(#1) Duke (ranked #1 in their division)
(#3) Georgia Tech
(#4) Connecticutt
(#1) St Joe's

Tomorrow, I may change my mind.

Good Morning... ! To my Irish family and friends, enjoy your day. (Husband is 1/2 Irish.)
Happy St Patrick's Day!

Global Candlelight Vigil photos here. We stood in the drizzle in front of the old Courthouse on Main Street, and listened to prayers of peace and sang songs. We took turns holding an umbrella over a guy playing the guitar. A few had brought signs, but I got the impression that they were discouraged. A small, but dedicated group. Although we just had around 30 sign up and over 200 showed up. (I went to the event in nearby Hendersonville, NC.) I stayed until I heard them fire up "Kumbaya", and with the steady rain, it was time for me to go. But not before we exchanged phone numbers and are making plans to meet again soon.

I don't know how Duke pulled it off, but they won the ACC Championship and are going to the NCAA playoffs. I don't expect them to do very well. I feel they were lucky to get this far this year.

A new Jimi Hendrix, R & B tribute, Power Of Soul, will be released later this year on MCA Records.

See how Bubba and his family are doing.

Need a funky handbag?

Quote For Today
As human beings, we share what is real. Joy, sorrow, care, courage, and tenderness are real. Tears are real, and so is laughter. These are the currency of the heart. They are meant to be exchanged.
~Unknown

**UPDATE: Kane asked yesterday how old Sky (my daughter) is. And others have asked me about her name, so I thought I'd talk about my sweet girl a bit. Her first and middle name were originally Schuyler Laurel. 'Schuyler' got changed to 'Skyler' because it was much simpler for her and her friends. Most of her friends call her Skyler, but her family calls her Sky or Skylaurel. And she'll be 15 in July.

I thank my lucky stars I'm not superstitious.

Good Sunday morning, friends...

I was completely fascinated with the plight of Tom Paulson in the independent documentary, "They Shoot Movies, Don't They?" on IFC. And simply stunned at the ending, like I haven't been since The Usual Suspects. Yes, pseudo-film critics, I know. I'm easy. I bought the whole scenerio up til the credits rolled. After sifting over the parallels of his script and the actual movie, I got it. Good-ass film. {When this was first shown on Bravo in Aug 2000, it received more response than all their other movies combined.}

Turkey's Parliament rejects basing 62,000 US troops for war against Iraq. Turkish girl wearing glasses with peace symbols and a sticker that reads "No war in Iraq". But they're going to vote again and some think Turkey will give their permission, possibly by the end of this week. Although the people of Turkey overwhelming oppose this action.

We took our daughter to meet friends at the mall and then went on to the "Peace Rally" or "Bring Them Home" rally Saturday. There were two groups of protesters. The "Save Our Troops" group; and the group holding the "Peace Rally" and their drums beating could be heard for miles. The low sound of the diggideridoo(?) was quite hypnotic. We had speakers and bands performing on the make shift stage and in the grass around the wading pool. Singing and dancing and magick and artists performing. The other group was mainly preachers, local politicians, prayer groups, gospel music and Travis Tritt. Only one arrest, that I heard of---actually saw.

Quote For Today
I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work the more I live. I rejoice in life for its own sake. Life is no brief candle to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations.
~George Bernard Shaw

[EDIT: 2:33 pm] Unbe-freakin-lievable. Duke gave up 12 points in the last 4 minutes to lose 72-71 to St John's. Great game, though. Duke is to the NCAA as the US is to the world.

Can I trade this job for what's behind door #2?
