Electric Grandbaby
My daughter prefers that my impending grandson have more fun clothes to wear. Nothing "yuppie-fied" is what she said so I'm having a blast getting ready for his arrival in September. This is a recent purchase from Baby Wit. There are many original designs by exceptional artists for Mom, Dad, home, dog, toys.

Neon Bible by Arcade Fire is officially out today ($9.99 if bought through their label) though many have been listening to some of the songs since December or so. When riding in the car, it is the one cd my daughter won't try to change so I'd say it has broad appeal.

The eagerly anticipated second album from Montreal's Arcade Fire exceeds all expectations. Neon Bible was written, produced, arranged, and performed by the Arcade Fire and recorded throughout 2006 in Quebec, New York, Budapest, and London with recording and engineering help from Markus Dravs (Bjork, Brian Eno) and Scott Colburn (Animal Collective, Sun City Girls). With string and orchestral arrangements by the band's own Owen Pallet (also Final Fantasy) and Regine Chassagne, Neon Bible is full of both half-assed punk rock mistakes and meticulously orchestrated woodwinds. Processed strings and mandolin. Quiet rumbles and loud rumbles. But mostly just eleven songs that the band thinks are really good!

I got your alt news right here.

Read about the recent bombing at Baghdad?s Mustansiriya University from Zeyad of Healing Iraq.

Can you imagine the scene? Try. Think of your own schools, your own college campuses. Think of how you would feel if your own son or daughter had to go to school in the hell that is called Iraq. Think of what you would do if you heard the news that the school was bombed.

Eyewitnesses said cell phones were still ringing urgently in pockets and purses lying around human body parts. Try to imagine the person on the other line.

A man searched for his son and finally found his head and torso, but no legs. ?Where is his other half?? he asked, before he started shaking with violent sobs.

Over here, the above scenes elicit a 20-second sound bite in the news, perhaps immediately followed by dog food or deodorant commercials. At best, politicians would use it in talking points, to justify even more bloodshed and destruction.

Daily news and comments on the situation in post Saddam Iraq by an Iraqi dentist, this weblog's been around a long time and is where I go for the truth about Baghdad.

GREY GARDENS

A paper bird sits in a rusty gilded birdcage by the window in one of the 28 rambling rooms in Grey Gardens by the shore. We watch Little Edie place a loaf of bread onto the attic floor for the raccoon that crawls out from behind the wall and heartily digs in.

With no running water and cat feces everywhere in this dilapidated house, Little Edie always managed to dress each day in one of her "revolutionary costumes". She would knot up a turban and wear makeshift skirts with a lovely brooch decorating her daily headgear, always in high heels, and red lipstick. Under the skirt were hose. Always. Color: Suntan.

After all, socialites must look presentable.
Are you a "staunch woman?" Does your "best costume for the day" involve a moth-bitten sweater wrapped around your head and pinned with a jeweled brooch? If so, you're likely a devotee of Grey Gardens, the 1975 documentary about an elderly society mother and her aging daughter living in isolated squalor in an East Hampton, NY, mansion. The film, which fixates on the day-to-day insanities of Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter, 'Little Edie' (the now-deceased aunt and cousin, respectively, of Jackie O), has acquired an enormous cult following over the past 30 years, mainly due to the extreme eccentricity and campy joie de vivre of the women. Nowhere is this popularity more apparent than in last spring's loving adaption of the film to an off-Broadway musical, starring Christine Ebersole in the roles of both the elder and younger Edies (in separate acts). Ebersole entranced sold-out crowds during that first run, and now her powerhouse portrayal will hit the big time when Grey Gardens opens at the Walter Kerr Theatre on Broadway opening night November 2.

FROM GAZA WITH LOVE

As a mother, I fear for our children. I can see the effects of the continuous sonic booming and artillery shelling on my daughter. She is 13 years old and she is restless, panicked. She is afraid to go out, yet frustrated because she can't see her friends. When the Israeli planes break the sound barrier, which they do at all times of the day and night, the sound is terrifying. My bed shakes tremendously. My daughter usually jumps into bed with me, shivering with fear. Then both of us end up crouching on the floor. My heart races, yet I need to pacify my daughter, to make her feel safe. Now she knows that we need to pacify each other. She feels my fear. When the bombs sound, I flinch and scream. I can't help myself. I am a doctor, a mature, middle-aged woman. But with the sonic booming, I become hysterical. I am only human after all, and we all have our threshold for fear and pain."

Dr. Mona El-Farra is a physician by training, a human rights and women's rights activist by practice, in the Occupied Gaza Strip, Palestinian Territory. See the Gaza Strip through her eyes.

I'm certainly not taking sides in any Middle East conflict nor am I skilled enough to debate it. I just find it more interesting to hear a Mother's viewpoint than a newscaster's.

Sex (Circa 2006)

Is "oral" the new 2nd base? The "mostly" girls (as in mostly straight) keep on kissing girls. Do you have a friend "with privileges"? And the "bro job" has also arrived.

"So are you, like, gay now that Ernie sucked your wang?" "No! It was totally just a bro job. I loves the ladies."

No one is inhibited whatsoever. Everybody's "bi" or "mostly". My daughter is so free and uninhibited. We used to tell her to put some clothes ON. I never thought anything could compete with the sexual revolution of the sixties. What was once considered slutty-hoochie is now acceptable in dress and attitude and sexuality. I can't believe I'm saying it but pondering the evolution of today's sexual young adult is a mother's nightmare.

Here we go, Marie.

Marie sez: "What I'd really like to see is the random list of music from our teenager's iTunes..."

So I asked darling daughter for her random list of ten.

  2. trivium:"pull harder on the strings of your martyr"
  3. walls of jericho:"there is no 'i' in fuck you"
  4. martyr ad:"american hollow"
  5. bury your dead:"bring the mosh"
  6. it dies today:"threnody for a modern romance"
  7. matchbook romance:"monsters"
  8. bleeding through:"kill to believe"

What does your teen listen to?

Unconventional Marriage - Conventional Daughter

Throughout my life it seems I've either been taken care of, or have taken care of someone else. My long ago retired and widowed Mother is now all alone. Alone and a little frail with some health issues, but she's still sharp and witty as she ever was and she cooks, cleans and goes through the usual daily household grind.

My nurturing gene is strong. It gets stronger as I get older. Since my youngest child entered teendom, I've been dreading the time that she'd be ready to go out on her own. That time will soon be here. And through the unfortunate death of my sister on Thanksgiving, who also took care of our Mother, I feel it's my time to move in and take care of her.

This leaves my husband and teen daughter 90 miles away, which I admit is unsettling. The 'away from my daughter' part. She's in her last year of high school and wasn't thrilled about the option of moving in with her Nana and I didn't force it. My husband and I have always maintained an unconventional union, so a long distance marriage is certainly doable. And he really is a hell of a father. So I'm having some trepidation about being away from Skyler.

Many people my age are faced with tough decisions about their elderly parents. For some of them, it's the right thing to do to put their father or mother in a good nursing home, particularly if they require medical attention. Some are fortunate to have a sibling that can care for them so the parent moves in with the child and the child now becomes the caretaker. The traditional role of parent/child is often blurred. Some will hire a sitter or home health care nurse to come in to care for them there in their comfort zone of their own surroundings. It's never an easy decision to make, and many times life events make that decision for us.

For now moving in with my dear Mother feels like the right thing to do. One day my daughter may also comfort me in my twilight years.

Cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
Now, cryin' won't help you, prayin' won't do you no good,
When the levee breaks, mama, you got to move.
--"When The Levee Breaks", Led Zeppelin

I can't get that song off my mind, and I'm probably not the only one. Jimmy Page's sinister slide combined with the thrashing thud of Bonham's drums in tangent as Robert Plant begins to howl, well, it takes on an eerie edge after Hurricane Katrina.

:: skippy is challenging everyone to pledge to the Red Cross by matching his donation of 100.01, blog about it and pass on the message. We had already pledged 100.00, so I'm off by .01...not sure what that penny is about, although it's true to form for wild and wacky blogfriend skippy. [via]

:: Our daughter just left for the annual Ozzfest in Charlotte on Friday night. She told her teachers she'd be out for two days and they were accommodating. Then again, she's now going to the very progressive Balfour School. No homework. Zero. Zilch. Nada. If a fight breaks out, they let them get it out of their system right on the spot. Swearing is permitted as long as it's not personally directed at anyone. In some ways, it's similar to the Montesorri school she attended as a much younger student. Later she wanted to try the public school system, and now she's back to a more alternative way of teaching and learning and we all couldn't be more pleased.

Say "NO" to drugs. That will bring the prices down.

EdgyMama writes in BlogAsheville today that some NC cites are completely out of gas... [via]

I'm not in panic mode yet, although I recall very well the gas rationing in 1974, buying gas on odd and even days, acccording to your license tag number. I paid 2.95 a gallon for Regular this morning in Hendersonville, NC, and didn't see any gaslines. By this afternoon, gas stations on Asheville Hwy 25, all had long lines waiting to pump gas. My daughter has a date to go to the movies tonight--on a motorcycle. Our local news report at 11pm last night sparked a fear in everyone here when they said the area gas stations may not be able to get any more gas this week. Is everyone else experiencing the same problem?

*UPDATE--Oh, shit. Gas can't be distributed for at least another week. The NC gas pipeline has no electricity due to the problems caused by Katrina, and many gas stations here are already out of gas. Well, it suppose it could be much worse.

INK, NOT MINK
"Be comfortable in your own skin and let animals keep theirs," says Lee in a new PETA ad, which features him wearing nothing but his trademark tattoos alongside the slogan, “Ink, Not Mink.”

The ad—shot by Mary McCartney Donald, daughter of Sir Paul McCartney and longtime PETA supporter—will be unveiled at New York’s new nightclub Home, which will mark the occasion by announcing a door policy banning fur coats.

I can't look at him without thinking of ..... anything but PETA, but still applaud anyone for taking a stand.

ME: sitting at my desk, paying bills: "Hi, sweetie!" I say to my 17 yo daughter as she returns home from a sleepover.
DAUGHTER: "ughhhh", she replies with a pained look on her face.
ME: "Don't you feel well?"
DAUGHTER: "Mom, we ate at this vegan restaurant in the mall last night.
ME: "Nice."
DAUGHTER: "No, not nice. I had this atrocious tofu crap and it made me sick and I haven't eaten anything since."
ME: "Can I fix you something?'' How about some quesadillas?''
ME: Stir fry some veggies & rice?"
DAUGHTER: "No!" she yells. "You trying to make me hurl?"
HUSBAND, overhearing and entering the dining room: "Don't yell at your Mother."
ME: "Want a Pepcid tablet? It's good for upset stomachs."
DAUGHTER: "No!", she's still yelling.

I get up and do the dance through the cupboards tango, looking for something that might interest her that would also be mild on her tummy.

She spies a bag of Doritos, grabs it; opens the refrigerator and retrieves a 2 liter Diet Pepsi and disappears into her bedroom.

Where, I might add, it will go unnoticed if she hurls.

{Saturday, June 4, 2005}

We're beginning to see too much of a good thing. And as bad as I hate to grab onto a worn out pop culture reference, like 'jump the shark', by god, the blogworld (blogiverse, blogotopia?) has J'd The S.

After seeing the latest joint blog ventures, it's increasingly clear that all the weblogs will consolidate, leaving only 3 or 4 weblogs in it's wake.

We'll be left with Gawker Fawker Super Stawker, Meta-Nerds Inc, and PoliTickle-- why not combine your politics and your porn? Or some such shit as that.

The pace will get so fast and furious with fifty-eleven people posting at once that no matter how hard you tried, you'd only get 1% of the gajillion posts read.

Don't get me wrong, I think getting like minds together for a group blog is a great thing. I participate in a few of those myself and collectively we kick ass.

But as I survey the independent weblog landscape, the group thing just seems to have taken on a life of its own. Like Wal-mart barreling into town and gobbling up all the Mom 'n' Pop stores. Anyway, that's the view from my back porch.

**I'm probably biased because I believe those group blogs I'm involved with do it the way it should be done. With carefully selected members posting carefully selected items. Others have appeared to me like they're going for quantity over quality. And why the hell do I even care? Because I like the quaint independent publishing vibe or atmosphere of writing in your bathrobe, connecting globally, meeting people like you. I don't want us to ever lose that. And now I fear that blogs are we knew them, may be getting too big from their britches. Change sucks sometimes. As you were...

{Thursday, April 14, 2005}

There are so many new ear piercing options today. To hear my teenage daughter and her friends talk about them or witness their latest piercings is a daily lesson in style and creativity. My son, who's much older, has always been artistic and displays a host of body modifications. When he was younger he liked to see me cringe when he appeared with a new tat or piercing. That was fifteen or so years ago. You didn't see it as much back then here in Smalltown, USA. He now owns a nice shop that does body piercing, tats, and henna apps and lives in another state so I don't see him as much.

Back to the earrings--the lower the number, the larger the pierced hole. You wear a larger earring to stretch the hole and ideally, you go up in size until you have a hole large enough to put a pencil through.

When I hear them speak in numbers and fractions I know they're probably talking about gauges or plugs or eyelets. I think. When I heard them speak of tunnels, orbitals and industrials, I had to step in and get educated.

I remember a time when two holes per ear were radical.

Damn. I am turning into my Mother.

{Thursday, March 31, 2005}

My husband and I made flutes from bamboo stalks years ago in Venice, CA, and sold them to the tourists for $5.00 on the beach. He did the hard part of taking a steel rod, heating it over an open flame, and then searing the holes into the bamboo in the proper place for sound. I took another rod, wrapped sandpaper on it, and smoothed out the innards of the flute.

This past week, after Sky had had a particularly trying day, together they made bamboo flutes from some we had found in the back yard. He used his drill to make the holes this time so they made two flutes rather quickly. They took them down to Pritchard Park (in Asheville, NC, where they hold rallies, vigils, protests, etc,) to the Drum Circle. Just the two of them.

By the time they got home, she was glowing from the music and the dancing and the community spirit, and her earlier troubles now seemed so far away. An eventful day IS an event when you have a 16 year old daughter.

Is it still morning? Well, Good Morning! So what's new with you? I got an early start today running around. Teen daughter's (Skyler) last day of school is today and then she'll have a lovely 3 weeks off. Pass the eggnog, will ya? Okay. I'll behave.

Choose The Blue is another helpful tool that shows specifically where you money goes. Right off I see that I'll be using Barnes & Noble a lot more than I did previously. I should keep a list of these Blue-friendly companies in my wallet.

News|Music

The more I hear from this cd, the more I like it. As in really like it. Local progressive radio station, WPVM, plays songs by Animal Collective quite often, specifically, the Sung Tongs cd with "Mouth Wooed Her" my favorite cut from it. After reading some reviews, they seem to be an either 'love them or hate them' sort of group and some say they're often trippy and psychedelic sounding. But very experimental with their sounds and instruments, almost child-like in their un-pretentiousness (is that a word?). Originality certainly goes a long damn way in the music biz in my opinion.

Who should you vote for? High Times recommends John Kerry. Would you call that a glowing recomendation?

It's what my 16 yo daughter and her friends are worrying about.

Hunter S Thompson weighs in: "Of course I will vote for John Kerry. I have known him for thirty years as a good man with a brave heart -- which is more than even the president's friends will tell you about George W. Bush, who is also an old acquaintance from the white-knuckle days of yesteryear. He is hated all over the world, including large parts of Texas, and he is taking us all down with him." more »

From Cook Casa (or, All In My Bidnez)
Our car insurance is usually pretty reasonable because we're old, don't drive fast cars and haven't had a wreck in a year or two. But we've always been penalized because of dear old Stu. He always managed to have a speeding ticket, or a ticket for running a red light, or some other infraction that caused our insurance to give him "points" and charging more cabbage for coverage. This last time, we were penalized for 3 years. Yesterday we got our new statement and our annual amount is going to be 1/2 of what it used to be. So, yeah, it's about time. Drive carefully, Schlomo.

Sky (16) and her Dad walked to Main Street Friday night and he said they had a nice talk. They have their best talks when walking. It's their special time to share with each other. Their joy, which was contagious, extended upon return. He stirred a pot on the stove while I whirled around the kitchen in my long and full dress. It billowed out like some big breezy umbrella causing Sky to laugh out loud. Then she wanted to do it, so I slipped out of my dress, and she slipped out of teen mode and into daughter-child, twirling around and laughing. I mentally squeezed it for all it was worth wishing I could stop the ticking demon hands of time. On some days I'm sure she's that little girl in the Exorcist; spewing out ugly words to her folks. And on others, she still twirls hand in hand around the kitchen with her Mother.

We've decided to let Skyler (16) go to Raleigh, about 200 miles away, to Ozzfest Tuesday. It starts at 9:30 am and goes straight through til 11:00 pm. She'll stay overnight in a hotel with her best friend, Jessica, and Jess's Mother who are family friends we've known forever. That was the deal clincher. Believe it. And they'll all have their cell phones with them, if needed. My husband and I both told her not to drink anything after anyone. I've been jackpotted like that a few times long ago. Weighing it over, I can't really think of why I shouldn't let her go. Because she's growing up way too fast and I just don't want her to? Because I'd rather she stays home til she's 44, alone, with a lap full of catnip saying, 'Here, kitty, kitty, kitty'? She'll be fine.

Generation S.L.U.T
A Brutal Feel-up Session With Today's Sex Crazed Adolescent Populace. (was released Feb 2004) S.L.U.T. is author Marty Beckerman's acronym for Sexually Liberated Urban Teens, and in this outrageous, chilling blend of fact and fiction, the 20-year-old author characterizes his view of his generation: hypersexual, emotionally vacant, and disturbingly tolerant of abuse.

This isn't in the book, but speaking of promiscuous girls, let me tell you about one thing that clued me in early on: I found it a little odd, as the parent of a 16 yo daughter, that all of the young girls wear thongs when they're 12 years old. Later I was relieved to learn it wasn't just my daughter and friends, but my nieces and friends' daughters all over the world. Maybe I'm just old and in the way, but no one wore thongs when I was young. And it doesn't equal promiscuity, but I see why some young girls may be mis-lableled.

The more I think about it, maybe I should read this book. And everything else I can get my hands on. No matter how great a relationship I may think we have, we're still a generation apart which is another say of saying 'I don't know shit'. It's going to be one long-ass ride.

Now You See It; Now You Don't - Gay Marriage in San Francisco

It's such a no brainer. Our universal rule or statute should be "As long as it's based on love, it can't be wrong." It's been my creed or dogma and has always served me well. Years earlier I referred to it as "Whatever gets you through the night." This is not to say it has to be to your liking and something you must believe in.

It can be as trifling as my mother-in-law telling my daughter to sit up straight and get her elbows off the table. It really chaps my hide, but it's based on love, so I set it free.

It can also be as life-altering and controversial as Gay Marriage. Now, where is the harm in that? It's certainly based on love, as is the way with marriage.

Two by two last Spring, love and hope descended on San Francisco in abundance to claim their legitimate place in society. Many sent flowers, congratulations and resounding Finally!'s. Still others disapproved.

But we don't live by creeds and dogma. People do, but nations don't.

In one fell swoop this week, the California Supreme Court struck down 4,000 Gay Marriages. Just like they never happened.

:: Does Shoe Size = Penis Size?
(Right this way, Bigfoot.) See Graph on this [link]. One formula is: (Shoe Size + 5) / 2. So (shoe size 11 plus 5) = 16; and divided by 2 = 8 inches. I stopped my personal survey sometime after my last marriage, so you think this is pretty accurate?

Why do all my daughter's friends happen to be gay and bisexual? Is it her? Yes, it's her. She's always been uninhibited and very open and told us she was bisexual when she was 13 and she's now 15. Which is fine with her Father and I. I hope I'm able to provide the right support, advice or encouragement when it's needed.

We're happy she's free enough to talk to us about something so personal. She's had some hard times at school because of her honesty. Although it is a different era, being gay is still not acceptable to some. And never will be.

I'm not sure if she's still searching for who she is, and parenting a teen daughter who's still exploring her own sexuality is uncharted territory for us. But if she ever needs a soft place to land she knows we'll always provide that for her; gay, straight, bi, or whatever.

Need a spiky bra to lift up your spirits? Trying to figure out just how you'd wear that black bra. As a swim suit top? Over something else? Or just flat out by itself?

Speaking of clothes, I saw where some high school in Canada is telling the girls to stop wearing pajama pants to school. My daughter and her friends have been wearing them here to school for a few years now. Like plaid flannel or with ducks or cartoon characters on them. They're comfortable and baggy, so what's the bfd?

Wish they included a playlist on their site. This morning I heard a nice celtic tune, followed by a sitar-based melody, and then a alt-rock compilation. The stage that's guaranteed to give you the largest amount of hoopla with the smallest amount of effort. Of course he's going to run. Getting 2.7% of the vote last time out isn't enough to discourage him. All the wingnuts will throw their money after him as his Hummer ego takes us all on a ride in his Corvair. Bitter, party of one? 8 Questions For George Bush
Also - The case that big media is afraid to ask: Did Bush go AWOL during his lost National Guard years? What the record shows. When I was in school, to avoid going to Vietnam, the guys either laid a liplock on the recruiter, moved to Canada for CO status (conscientious objecter), or signed up with the National Guard, weekend paintball warriors that were guaranteed no combat. In the few press conferences he's had that have not been held on patriotic packed military bases, his interviewers have all been hand-picked, assuring 'Gee-George- how-do-you- unwind-after-a-hard- day-of -presidenting' questions. Imagine my surprise when I hear he's going to be on Sunday's Meet The Press and may actually have to answer questions that haven't been well rehearsed before hand. My heartbeat quickens, my stomach churns, and my hands start shaking after all these years. I was 15 or 16 when the FBI came to question me at school one day. The principal turned over his office to us as I entered to see two intimidating suits waiting to grill me. "We've seen your bedroom 'curtains' and we'd like to talk to you about them."

Some friends and I had ripped off a truckload of flags the city used for Fourth of July parades. I had put curtain hooks in some and installed them on those pulley-type curtains you open and close. Two windows. Both visable from the street. Two Feds. Both taking a dim view of my cool curtains.

I'm reminded of this stupid stunt when I see the NYT article about the FBI collecting info on anti-war activists and others they deem suspicious. Young people, especially trouble-makers like me, were being watched closely then. I've often wondered if J Edgar Hoover's FBI started a 'file' on me as a young instigator. I'm such a Susie SquareJohn now.

Good Morning. What a gloomy ass day I have today. I couldn't get (my daughter ) Skye to budge at all this morning, so I'll hate to drive her in later. Then I'm off to visit blogfriends. And I really must get started on a piece about cowboy coffee and cabins in the woods.

{television} PBS's Masterpiece Theatre is presenting Dr Zhivago. It came on Nov 2, Sunday and concludes next Sunday, Nov 9. It's very good. Did you know it won the Nobel Prize for Literature in it's time? (Although it was stripped of him later.)

{books} Read any good books lately? Two writers I enjoy-- Anne Rice's 'Blood Canticle' is out. But I've not read her books in some time, so I'd be lost on this one. What an imagination. And 'Love', by Toni Morrison, debuts this week. The first chapter can be read here. (She had me at 'Beloved'.) Now I write much more than I read. For instance, am I the only one who has NOT read The Da Vinci Code?

It's Monday....slap on that plastic grin and fake it today.

At the Drum Circle Saturday night, Skye (my daughter) and her friend, Jess, went inside the circle to dance as the drums were being played. She also played someone's drum and was very good. In fact, when she was through, the guru drummer dude bent over with his hands prayer-like and said to her, "My child, you can have it. It's yours." And gave her his handmade drum. She's still floating on air. {this is a pic I found of some folks in Canada online; the Drum Circle we have each night in the summer is huge.}

A steady stream of festival-goers filed through the Jimi Hendrix Traveling Museum to get a taste of the late guitarist's legendary career. This and the drum circle plus other events were part of Asheville's (NC) Bele Chere festival, held annually and billed as the 'Largest Free Outdoor Street Festival in the Southeast'.

Good Morning to you....and you...and oh, you, too.

I am the fickle browser chick. I've tried IE, Netscape, AOL-MSN-Earthlink's IE versions, Opera. And no matter how much I like one, I always go back to IE. It just has more bells and whistles. But now I'm trying out Mozilla Firebird. And so far, real good. It's certainly the fastest broswer, by far. Anyone use it?

Another validation I'm turning into my Mother. In the car this morning, I had to put a pillow behind my back to reach the pedals better. At 5'4", I'm the runt in my family. The way I'd stand by my Mother and pat her head is now being done to me by my daughter. Husband is 6'3", Daughter is 5'11", Son is 5'10". But I was tall in my Mother- Father- Sister-Myself family. My Mother is 5'0", Sister is 5'3", so my 5'4" was tall.

Good Morning.....

Having so much rain lately, my almost 15 yo daughter always plays in it. She's begged us to let her play in it since she's been small, and we couldn't really give her a good reason not to. So each time it pours, she runs and laughs and has the best time; walks around the block, or thru the woods, or rides her bike. It's such a joy to watch her free spirit dance and play in the rain.

When we cannot help but notice how millions of progressive love-minded Gay Pride folks across America, from S.F. to N.Y., from Atlanta to Seattle to Chicago, were actually cheering on the Supreme Court last week -- the same crusty bunch that snuck BushCo into office in the first place -- for slapping the tragically heartless GOP right across its wan butt with a leather whip and a shocking 6-3 decision, stunning the Christian right into disbelief and abject terror. Not to mention Canada's gay marriage, and maybe even how the United Kingdom, too, is one step away from legalizing gay unions, and the poor GOP is feeling the slope toward calm debauchery and delicious godlessness getting slippery indeed. Do any of you pet owners have flea problems this year? If you manage to kill them all off, and treat your animals, you'll still bring them in from outdoors and they'll breed and take over again. This is one of the worst battles I've had with fleas, and others say the same thing. You're constantly trying to stay ahead of them and there's no good way to get rid of them without using massive quantities of chemicals in your home. None that I know of.

*Edited to add: We've been using Frontline for the fleas, but not year-round. We have been getting all our pet supplies online at Drs Foster Smith for years now. You can get everything you need except rabies shots. If you spend lots of $$ at the Vet, you should really check this site out. You'll be amazed at the money you can save.

Good Morning...
Sometimes I find it necessary to spell it out. To claim it, soak it up and let it ring inside me.

Things I'm Grateful For

1. My Spirituality. It's the first thing I go to whenever I need guidance or faith strengthening.

2. My family. Not just my husband, daughter and son, but also my 80 yo Mother, and especially for my sister. Grateful for those individual relationships and love and I tell them often.

3. My health. Physical: Also includes working out, running, yoga. Mental: would have to include being drug-free for 12 years.

4. My friends. Real life--Some I've had for over 30 years now. And also my online friends. The ones I can warmly and objectively talk to most every day. =)

5. And Blogger. Because it appears to be back in superb working order today.
I'm in a strange, meek, vulnerable, loving kind of mood today.

Anyone got any fun Memorial Day plans? Years ago, there were always family reunions. Some I was invited to; some not---like the ones during my 'wild period'. Although I was a big hit at campfire sing-a-longs, great granny always took a dim view of me stripping and plunging into the creek after I'd shotgunned a few beers.

Back to the mouse wheel that's still giving me grief---I take that ball out often and clean the lint out. I"m not talking about the bottom of the mouse. This is the scolling wheel on top of the mouse that still moves, but it no longer scrolls on the page. The wheel that allows you to scroll up and down without having to put your mouse on the scrollBARS to move the page. Geez, does anybody get me? I want my fucking wheel to scroll again, damnit. Is that so wrong?

The prestigious Webby Awards will be given out on June 5; you'll be able to see it online this year. You can register to vote on their People's Choice awards, and Friday is that deadline. This site has been around for some time now and is always a great place to surf for the web's best sites.

Someone had asked me where I had bought my camo capris and I finally remembered. My daughter has a catalog called GFLA that I ordered from so here's their web site.

Barbelith is one of my favorite sites that's been around forever and has something for everyone. The Underground area is probably the best.

Quote For Today
Don't be discouraged by a failure. It can be a positive experience. There's A Moron At The Door
"Mother? Someone at the front door wants to speak to either you or Dad," said my daughter. I thought I'd just heard her say something about a moron at the door.

I didn't see a car in the drive. I open the front door to see a nice looking young guy with jet-black hair, a dark tan, with a blinding white smile. (so far, so good) Checking him over further, I also noticed:

1. White dress shirt? Check
2. Black dress pants? Check
3. Black dress shoes? Check

Oh, great. There's a Mormon at the door. Probably just hopped off his bike.

"Listen, honey," I announced, "I'm really not into talking religion with you right now."

"No", he chuckled, and nodding towards a neighbors house, he began, "Dwayne said you might have a place for rent."

"Oh, okay. I thought you were... ," I managed to mumble with a size 9 in my mouth.

Yeah, I had it right the first time. There really was a Moron at the door.

Oh yeah. She's undone. Our daughter made some long distance calls without asking and ran the phone bill up real good. What does her pushover Dad do to punish her? Since our almost 15 yo dear daughter had been feuding with her grandmother, my husband said, "Sweetie, if you call your grandmother and be real nice, you'll be off the hook." She was expecting a month or more of no phone; I thought we were still discussing it. Damn, she's gonna run right over both of us like a bulldozer.

Sky knows she got away big time. I was thinking no phone---and/or pay the bill off by doing extra chores around the house; cutting the grass, etc. And I'm also thinking what's to prevent her from doing this again, or something else freaky? Not one fucking thing. I'm so mad I could eat nails.

I watched Brent Sadler's live coverage, ahead of coalition forces, from 12:00 am to 3:00 am early this morning on CNN. This independent reporter was shot at several times as he raced through checkpoints in Tikrit, Iraq, in search of a story that was being shown live all over the world. No live link as good news of the 7 POW's found alive has bumped his report off of CNN's site. But, that's certainly fine with everyone. You couldn't know how much news I watch and read. Bordering on obsessed.

"They tied my hands behind my back and threw us in a truck and said that they were going to take us to Tikrit, to the intelligence headquarters. At that point, our translator said, "If they take you to the headquarters of the intelligence service, you're certainly going to die. You'll be executed." After enduring Saddam as America's puppet and then as America's monster, the Iraqis have been promised security and democracy. They have had a Western war. They are entitled to a Western peace. That peace is not a porn magazine, a case of dried milk and Mr Chalabi in a golden palace. Aloha Friday, to Kane, and all the other folks in Hawaii, US.

Why do men think women can locate any missing object? Have you ever noticed that? They're always asking, "Have you seen the________?" Or "Have you see my ________? (fill in the blank) They must think women have some type of uterine tracking device that can zero in on lost items. Instead of a GPS, maybe a GPV-- Global Positioning Vagina?

I said, they bought some French wine.....Isn't the whole thing behind boycotting is you actually DONT buy the product? Good Morning... ! I just returned from South Carolina and almost ran over a downed tree in front of Furman University. It wasn't quite daylight at 6:00 and it raining very hard. Luckily, a guy was in the road in a white shirt waving his arms to attract my (and others) attention so I was able to stop in time---barely. The tree covered both lanes of traffic, and I went around in the grass. I think I'm still shook up and consider myself very lucky. Later on this morning, I heard there were 3 wrecks at that same site.

She's very tender and they're hoping it'll heal if she takes it easy for a few days. Thank you so much for you good wishes and prayers.

She's always gossiping and stirring up trouble in the family, doing something outrageous to attract everyone's attention. Returning from her trip to the Rainforest is the baby of the family, MSNBC. Good Morning... ! To my Irish family and friends, enjoy your day. (Husband is 1/2 Irish.)
Happy St Patrick's Day!

Global Candlelight Vigil photos here. We stood in the drizzle in front of the old Courthouse on Main Street, and listened to prayers of peace and sang songs. We took turns holding an umbrella over a guy playing the guitar. A few had brought signs, but I got the impression that they were discouraged. A small, but dedicated group. Although we just had around 30 sign up and over 200 showed up. (I went to the event in nearby Hendersonville, NC.) I stayed until I heard them fire up "Kumbaya", and with the steady rain, it was time for me to go. But not before we exchanged phone numbers and are making plans to meet again soon.

I don't know how Duke pulled it off, but they won the ACC Championship and are going to the NCAA playoffs. I don't expect them to do very well. I feel they were lucky to get this far this year.

A new Jimi Hendrix, R & B tribute, Power Of Soul, will be released later this year on MCA Records.

As human beings, we share what is real. Joy, sorrow, care, courage, and tenderness are real. Tears are real, and so is laughter. These are the currency of the heart. They are meant to be exchanged.

**UPDATE: Kane asked yesterday how old Sky (my daughter) is. And others have asked me about her name, so I thought I'd talk about my sweet girl a bit. Her first and middle name were originally Schuyler Laurel. 'Schuyler' got changed to 'Skyler' because it was much simpler for her and her friends. Most of her friends call her Skyler, but her family calls her Sky or Skylaurel. And she'll be 15 in July.

I thank my lucky stars I'm not superstitious.

Good Morning... !

MoveOn.org and the Win Without War coalition, together with Archbishop Desmond Tutu and many faith-based organizations, are calling this vigil, and we need your help. Beginning in New Zealand, this will be a rolling wave of candlelight gatherings that will quickly cross the globe.

Join with millions of others around the globe and in your community. Join or schedule a candlelight vigil for peace in your city here: www.GlobalVigil.com There are a few scheduled in my area and I'll be out there at 7:00 with my daughter. It's not too late to sign up; you'll just be told specifically what to expect and where to meet.

Chinese Censoring The Rolling Stones
The Rolling Stones will be playing two historical concerts in China, but four of their most famous songs will be missing. The Chinese government has deemed them inappropriate. The band were told they cannot play Brown Sugar, Honky Tonk Woman, Beast of Burden and Let's Spend the Night Together, said Chen Jixin, head of Beijing Time New Century Entertainment. The Stones are due to play two concerts in the country, in Shanghai on 1 April and in Beijing on 4 April. Chen said she did not know why the government had banned the four songs. The same four were cut from the Chinese release of the band's last compilation album, 40 Licks, by the China culture ministry.

ACC Basketball Tournament today at 1:00 for all the marbles. Between Duke and NC State.

Sky's squirting the pets with a water bottle and they're all scrambling to hide behind me at once. My husband and I are hoping she'll meet a nice punk rocker/skateboarder who makes all A's someday.

Good Morning... !

I just don't get it. I LOVED school and always made good grades. Same with my husband. But our teenage daughter doesn't care one iota about academics. She loves soccer and other sports and singing and art. But we cannot get her interested in much else. She's been treated for ADHD last year and there was no improvement. And we've been round and round with teachers, and doctors. I don't know how to get her to take it seriously.

What great news about Elizabeth Smart. I wonder if she slept in the same room and bed that she slept in when she was last at home. I wonder if her parents kept peaking in on her watching her sleep. I wonder if Elizabeth woke in the middle of the night and remembered she was finally home. It's very heart warming to see her parents finally smiling. I can't even fathom how I'd hold up if that happened to my almost 15 year old daughter.

Writer, Tom Robbins, weighs in on the inevitable Iraq war. "Don't get me wrong-I don't want American soldiers killed. But I don't want Iraqis killed, either. I'm just not one of those people who believes that American lives are more valuable than the lives of others." I had just finished re-reading Jitterbug Perfume by him. With so many 24 hr news shows, it seems every celebrity and pseudo-celeb gets questioned about Iraq.

Good Morning...

Old movies I've watched again lately that didn't stand the test of time. Ned Kelly. Still painful to watch, but it IS Mick as a young man. A Clockwork Orange. It helped to have the actual glossary that came with the book. I was so stoned when I saw it the first time in Daytona Beach, (or was it Fort Lauderdale?) that the surrounding experience glorified the whole movie for me. But, Malcolm MacDowell was rushed to the head of coolness in one fell swoop. And would have stayed there until I happened to see him on Fantasy Island. And Crossroads. I fussed over it at one time, and now it's just corny to me.

Was I so fickle at 15? My wonderful daughter can seem like Linda Blair in the Exorcist one minute, and be all sweetness and light the next minute. Seriously. She can quickly change her mood and I'm left shaking my head. I seem to remember myself being consistently bitchy or consistently aloof. But she can go from zero to bitch in under 6 seconds. I'm still too stunned to talk to her about it. I don't know if an embrace or a duck 'n' cover is in order. But I still tell her every single night, "I love you just the way you are", even if it does conjur up a pukefest in her mind.

I want some great satirist to speak for our country. But, it won't be Bill Maher. Although he's come closer than most, there's just no heart, or passion there. After watching Mort Sahl, Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, and George Carlin, the bar is still up there pretty high. I expect a great deal out of my political satirists.

Jimmy Carter can't NOT speak his heart on the upcoming war. This should be required reading for everyone.

MoDo's 'Xanax Cowboy' column agrees with my Bush speech assessment of him calling forth the 'Thorazine Salute'.

A company tied to Vice President Dick Cheney has won a Pentagon contract for advice on rebuilding Iraq's oil fields after a possible war.

Good Sunday morning, friends...

I was completely fascinated with the plight of Tom Paulson in the independent documentary, "They Shoot Movies, Don't They?" on IFC. And simply stunned at the ending, like I haven't been since The Usual Suspects. Yes, pseudo-film critics, I know. I'm easy. I bought the whole scenerio up til the credits rolled. After sifting over the parallels of his script and the actual movie, I got it. Good-ass film. {When this was first shown on Bravo in Aug 2000, it received more response than all their other movies combined.}

Turkey's Parliament rejects basing 62,000 US troops for war against Iraq. Turkish girl wearing glasses with peace symbols and a sticker that reads "No war in Iraq". But they're going to vote again and some think Turkey will give their permission, possibly by the end of this week. Although the people of Turkey overwhelming oppose this action.

We took our daughter to meet friends at the mall and then went on to the "Peace Rally" or "Bring Them Home" rally Saturday. There were two groups of protesters. The "Save Our Troops" group; and the group holding the "Peace Rally" and their drums beating could be heard for miles. The low sound of the diggideridoo(?) was quite hypnotic. We had speakers and bands performing on the make shift stage and in the grass around the wading pool. Singing and dancing and magick and artists performing. The other group was mainly preachers, local politicians, prayer groups, gospel music and Travis Tritt. Only one arrest, that I heard of---actually saw.

Although our daughter plays a few musical instruments, I've never seen her father so proud as when she learned to play "Sunshine Of Your Love" on her guitar this weekend. At the hospital when she was born, he looked at her fingers to see if they were long enough for easier guitar playing. At 14, she's the same age I was when I first learned to love playing the guitar. Bobby Goddard would come over after school in his '62 Chevy and show me a few chords to Dylan, and Peter, Paul & Mary songs. He wasn't very cute, but he was a pretty good picker.

Hello, Tuesday....
My teenage daughter just came for the scissors. It's never a good sign when she comes for the scissors. At age 3, with waist length hair that had never been cut, she took my embroidery scissors and decided it was time for a trim. Her father and I were in shock for days. But I've learned to trust her judgement over time. She's very artistic and loves to design clothes; often taking notions from my sewing room and coming up with something exciting and fun. Oh, my sweet girl's growing up so fast. She was wearing a long, black sleeveless knit dress when she came in here, so I suppose it'll be her next victim creation.

I'm really trying to be more cognizant about giving folks credit where credit is due. I don't always remember to do that. And I really hate to see others rip me off and not give me a mention, so I should practice what I bitch about, right? If I ever fail to give you credit for a link, please let me know.

Ever see bloggers put their blog lists in categories? That's handy. I suppose. But it depends on how it's done. I've seen weblogs that will categorize their lists in sections like, "Daily Reads", "Monthly Reads", and "Every Now and Then Reads". Why don't they go ahead and spell it out? "My Favorite Reads", "Occasionally Have Something Significant To Say Reads", "Totally Lame, But For Reasons I Don't Quite Understand Will List Them Anyway Reads". It's your blog, do it how you want, that's the independent web way and all, which I totally get behind. But, I'd never ever consider listing YOUR blog on my "Occasional Reads", or "Not Totally Lame Reads" lists. You're ALL favorites to me.

In western North Carolina, we have snow predictions for early evening. Also for Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia. It's in west Tennessee now. Surrounding states to expect snow/rain mix. We're supposed to get 3-6 inches; maybe more. We've not had a decent snowfall in about a month or so, so I'm looking forward to a beautiful snowstorm. Right after I stock up on extra groceries, etc. Everyone makes a mad dash to the market after a weather forecast like this. I wonder if it's like that everyplace.

Sony Pictures Classics has secured North American distribution rights for the film, Masked and Anonymous, which stars Bob Dylan as a wandering minstrel. It will premiere Jan 22 at 2003 Sundance Film Festival. I had a post about this movie back on June 26 on my old Blogspot site that gives more details about this movie.

Speaking of Jagger, daughter Jade, is definitely in the pink.

Orlando's new Hard Rock Cafe's Vault is a museum, with a wall-sized quilt depicting Frank Zappa as a playing card constructed from ladies' underwear thrown on stage during some long-ago tour. The brightly colored tapestry is undeniably cool, a focal point of the new attraction with a rock 'n' roll attitude at Mercado on International Drive, in Orlando, Florida. More info here on the Orlando Vault contents; including the rumpled black leather jacket worn by Bruce Springsteen on the Born to Run cover. There's also Bob Dylan's typewritten lyric sheets for "I Want You," "Absolutely Sweet Marie" and "Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again," songs from his landmark Blonde on Blonde album, in the Vault.

I'm back after a belated Christmas visit with my family. The whole experience was delightful. We kept the hellish arguments to a minimum and the yelling and cussing to a mild roar. I still sang 'I'll Be Home For Christmas' on the drive over like I do every year; dear daughter played 'Name that Roadkill'. The best thing was seeing my sister and Mother. Next best thing was looking through very old photo albums of my grandmother's I hadn't seen since I was small.

UPDATE: 12:15 pm

Haven't given out my "Dickhead Award" in quite some time. The award is presented to someone in the news who's done something so radically stupid that you want to say, "What a dickhead". The honor goes to the Tennessee officers who shot and killed this family's dog while they were mistakenly stopped as suspects in a felony. The officers pulled him over and the passengers were ordered out of the car and handcuffed. Then they drew their guns on this family returning from a family visit. The dogs travelling with them also jumped out, as the family pleaded to let them close their car doors, and one officer shot the family pet's head right off in front of them all. Said the daughter, "I had never seen my father or brother cry until that day." The family was able to carry home the remains of "Patton" where they buried him in their backyard. This family lives in the next county over from me. CNN is also airing this story.

No Expectations

Does anyone actually get out of the house on time on Monday mornings? Without forgetting something? Or arguing with your family about something trivial? I should just resign myself to the fact that on Mondays I will probably always be late, fuss with my husband and/or daughter and forget something important. That's how it usually is at my house and that's how it was at my home growing up, too. Or maybe it's a problem that only visits me and my home.

Smoking In The Girl's Room

It really doesn't seem that long ago since I was in high school. But it was [1967-1970]. And it was a different world. One of the major changes I've noticed is 'No Smoking'. I imagined my daughter walking into a smoky bathroom at her high school and before I could fast forward my head to this millenium, she quickly informed me that tobacco of any kind is no longer allowed. That startled me. Because smoking was such a rite of passage for my generation. There were designated spots outside on school grounds for smoking between classes. And when I went to work after school, an ashtray on my desk was as normal as my telephone or pencil holder. Later, studies came out against smoking, and the cessation of smoking in public places began. Even though I live in North Carolina, tobacco country, where the tobacco news is sometimes slanted, I heard about all the lawsuits against the industry. When I was younger, it didn't occur to me that I'd be discussing the days when we used to smoke at work and school. And maybe one day I can discuss the days when I used to smoke, period.

Doom and Gloom

It sure looks gloomy outside my window today. It's all rainy and has been thundering and lightening earlier. And it looks like it's going to be this way through Monday. And so will a lot of the East Coast. But my husband just loves the rain. And my daughter has always insisted on playing outside in it since she's been small and couldn't be happier to see it. I've always hated the rain. Rain, rain, go the hell away. Please?

My Youngest Goes Off To High School

Orientation takes place in a few hours for my daughter as she gets ready to begin high school. Her first full day will be tomorrow. She has grown up more in the last year, from age 13 to 14 than any other year besides birth to a year old. I practically have to sit on my hands to keep from smoothing her hair or picking imaginary lint from her sweater. You know how us Moms like to preen our young. Going to high school is a monumental occasion. And I recall walking out of the school when I first dropped her off at first grade. I passed two other Moms that also had tears in their eyes. Now I'm at this crossroads, or rather, she is. Am I ready for her to be this independant yet? Isn't this what we prepare our children for? To stand on their own two feet? Can I rethink the whole situation and get back to you later? She's going to be just fine, but I may need a while to adjust. Underneath it all, I'm just afraid she really doesn't need me anymore for anything and that's the scariest part of it all.

Ahh, To Be A Teenager Again

My daughter and her friend are zooming thru the house on their inline skates in their bikinis waiting for the local pool to open so they can go swim and have fun with their friends today. They enter the ninth grade next week and are so giddy about it, it's hard to wipe the smiles off their faces.

I can't help but remember back to that same time in my life when I was getting ready to go to high school for the first time. Rumors of freshman initiation has them a little antsy, even though the principal has said he won't tolerate it this year. Do you think that they know that this may just be the time of their life? Probably not. They're too busy having a blast and living life to analyze it.

Foghat Revisited

Driving to breakfast this morning, my daughter was reminiscing about one of Jim Carey's MTV Award's appearances. The one where he's dressed up in a hat and long hair and beard and remarks, "Would it kill you to play a little Foghat every once in a while, MTV?" And Courtney Love jumps out of her seat and approvingly thrusts her fists into the air. Anyway, this led to my teen daughter and I trying to remember some old Foghat lyrics. And, of course, now I have "I Just Wanna Make Love To You" on my mind and it doesn't show signs of fading anytime soon...

Skyler's Vacation

Skyler, my daughter, just pulled out for her summer vacation. She's going to see her grandmother in Atlanta. Most of our extended family lives there now. They sometimes go to Florida from there. So she'll be happy to visit her cousins, etc. It's just always a wee bit sad when she goes. But on the bright? side, my husband and I will have more time together, right?

Monday!! Just two more days until Skyler goes to summer school! She's been bored around the house and looks forward to going. Another month until her 14th birthday.

Lakers won last night. Damn, well at least the hopeful victory will be much sweeter when the Nets win the series against them. I know the Nets are sure to NOT be favored, but wouldn't you love to see someone else beat Shaq & Company for a change? Regardless of who wins, this has been some exciting basketball playoff series. And Jason Kidd is just consistantly phenomenal to watch. Okay, I'm through...

I'm watching a story about Les Paul on TV right now. He's one great talented musician and guitar builder. But that's such an understatement. He is a legend---OK, that better describes him. Steve can really play well, too. Of course, not on the level of a Les Paul. But he can hold his own. I wish he could make his living by playing again and so does he. That is his one true passion and it needs to be nourished. Just sitting around the house or on the front porch picking is not enough for him. Skyler has finally started showing a real interest in the guitar and the keyboards. She can already play the cello and violin. She's starting to pick out chords on the guitar, and play songs by ear on the keyboard. Steve couldn't be more proud of her. That's always been one of his wishes for her.

Our house is thrilled that Skyler will be entering high school in the fall. It was such a stressful eighth grade for us all. And she still needs to go to summer school. She's entering a time in her life where she'll come in contact with lots of influences--- both good and bad. So many teens her age (14) have already been in trouble with drugs and gangs, etc. The only rehab I see in her future is the "Facility For Teens Hooked On Phonics".

Skyler feeling puny...

Now Sky's throat is all swollen and she couldn't even swallow or speak last night. About 6 hours after the doctor looked at her throat, etc. And he didn't even notice that her throat was red or swollen. This morning she insisted on going to school. She's not so devoted to school; she doesn't want to miss talking to her friends. And after school, she seemed much better. She's also on a diet--a little extreme, I must say. She's lost about 15 lbs in 3 weeks or so. I wish she'd start eating a little more.....

I made Skyler a doctor's appointment today, so I'll pick her up a little early from school. She has terrible congestion and is achy all over. It does appear to be of the cold/flu/sinus variety, but this time my intuition tells me to have her checked out by a pro and that's what I'm going to do.

{Saturday, April 27, 2002}

I enjoy being up on a Saturday morning reading the news, drinking my espresso. There's a slight breeze through the walnut trees outside my dining room window and the day is still undecided if it will be cloudy or sunny.

HB and Skyler are still asleep. Skyler's ADHD medicine doesn't seem to be doing much good. Her doctor changed the dosage; hopefully that will help her. It's strange to see her at this woman/child stage of the game---almost 14 now. Needing me/but hating me. Isn't that the teenage way? I'm quite tolerant of most of her ways, which gives her more reason to hate me. Two old hippies raising a daughter with love and way too much understanding for her to appreciate just yet. Still I feel blessed...

I wonder what Steve's day is like today. He's at work and I thought I'd hear from him by now, but I haven't. Skyler went back to school after a long Spring Break. She was ready to see her friends. It's so damn quiet here today. The sound of guilt is deafening.

MY FRIDAY FIVE - April 5, 2002

1. What are the first things that you do in the morning to start your day? Check on everyone, change my clothes, feed the dogs and cat, take my vitamins & other such stuff, sit down with some coffee and cigarettes and watch the morning news.

2. What are the last things that you do at night before going to bed? Tidy up, lay out clothes, turn off lights, check on pets, kiss Skyler, and fall asleep with the tv on.

3. What daily routine have you recently added to your day? Pretty much been doing the same old shit every day.

4. What routine do you wish you get rid of? That getting up and going to work thing.

5. What's the one thing that makes you feel like something is missing if you don't do it some point within your day? I have to have hugs and kisses from my husband and daughter, really just time with them, or what's the point?

My daughter is strange sometimes---but in a good way, I suppose. She was fussing with her dad over a stuffed animal one moment and threatening to bitch slap the neighbor boy the next.
