Oberon Zell-Ravenheart - One of the great fathers of the Modern Pagan Movement, co-founder of the Church of All Worlds and Headmaster of Grey School of Wizardry. The above 2 part interview on YouTube by Magick.TV Oberon Zell-Ravenheart, is also a decent sculptor and artist and has brought back his Green Egg magazine. Mrs Morrison's HotelThe 100% personal official blog for Patricia Kennealy Morrison, author, Celtic priestess, retired rock critic, wife of Jim. I was born..no, wait, that's David Copperfield. Anyway, I was born in Brooklyn, grew up on Long Island, went to school in upstate NY and came straight back to Manhattan to live. Never lived anywhere else. Never wanted to. Got a job as a rock journalist, in the course of which I met and married a rock star (yeah, yeah, conflict of interest, who cares). Became a priestess in a Celtic Pagan tradition, and (based on sheer longevity) one of the most senior Witches around. Began writing my Keltiad series. Wrote a memoir of my time with my beloved consort (Strange Days: My Life With and Without Jim Morrison). Curiosity will have you visit her and being a prolific writer with a beautiful spirit will assure your return. link ![]() |

Winter Solstice Celebrations It's not too soon to think about Winter Solstice celebrations, which are increasingly becoming more popular. (If you really want to go old school, see Saturnalia.) Some people do this in addition to their usual Christmas traditions. Some have the celebration of Jesus birth assimilated into the Winter Solstice. And some are just tired of the whole cheesy commercialism of Christmas that concentrates more on enriching the retailers and stressing us all that they wish to try something different. It depends on what you want to get back from this season. Love? Peace? Presents? Do you want to honor it with a religious experience? And which one? Should you feed your spirituality in a more earth-based way, leave out the whole biblical aspect, or celebrate your usual family traditions? And what about the children? How does a Buddhist couple with Protestant parents and Pagan kids celebrate the holidays? We manage to do our own thing and also honor our family's way of celebrating by finding something we all can relate to. One thing is we all celebrate the Winter Solstice and continue through New Year's Eve: 12th Night. We build a bonfire, (my husband's favorite part) and a Yule log is taken from that to the indoors where it (and more firewood) burns until the 12th Night. Then you spread the ashes on the field or garden on the first day of the year (which get into Compitalia). In those 12 days there's also a procession, gift-giving, (a little gift each day) bells, singing, paying it forward, feasting, prayers and much more but this is getting a little long. Winter Solstice for 2006 will occur in North America on December 21, Thursday. The precise time depends on your time zone. In PST, it will be 4:22 pm; in EST, 7:22 pm. Life Among the Neo-Pagans --Paul Krassner's article on the Starwood Festival The first event was on a weekend, attended by 185 people, with twenty presentations and a bonfire built from an old split-rail fence. This July marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of Starwood; the weeklong event drew 1,600, with 150 presentations and twenty musical and theatrical performances. I attended several workshops, including "Shamans and Drugs" by Stanley Krippner, a psychology professor at Saybrook Institute, psychic researcher and co-author of Dream Telepathy. A member of the Rainforest Action Network, he mentioned a Brazilian tribe, the Guarani, whose members have hanged themselves from endangered trees. I related my participation at an ayahuasca ceremony in Ecuador where the shaman's shrine included a sealed-beam headlight from an old Buick and a gray clamshell-like item that opens up, revealing a head of the Virgin Mary that can be used as a Jell-o mold. The New Yorker interviewed Stephen Colbert of The Daily Show recently, which is good since I don't see much information about him. I have watched him since the wild and weird Strangers With Candy on Comedy Central. I just read that he's the voice of Ace of the Ambiguously Gay Duo on SNL. He also talks about studying improv with Del Close in Chicago, who was also a noted pagan. Colbert will star in “The Colbert Report,” in October, which will air just after the “The Daily Show.” Labels: pagan ![]() |

We've decided to let Skyler (16) go to Raleigh, about 200 miles away, to Ozzfest Tuesday. It starts at 9:30 am and goes straight through til 11:00 pm. She'll stay overnight in a hotel with her best friend, Jessica, and Jess's Mother who are family friends we've known forever. That was the deal clincher. Believe it. And they'll all have their cell phones with them, if needed. My husband and I both told her not to drink anything after anyone. I've been jackpotted like that a few times long ago. Weighing it over, I can't really think of why I shouldn't let her go. Because she's growing up way too fast and I just don't want her to? Because I'd rather she stays home til she's 44, alone, with a lap full of catnip saying, 'Here, kitty, kitty, kitty'? She'll be fine.

{Magickal Mystery Tours}
Vincent Bridges is an historian, author, independent researcher and a self-proclaimed “anthropologist of the weird.” He is also a pioneer researcher in the field of psycho-acoustic therapy, a trauma abreaction technique using light and sound entrainment of brain frequencies, a pagan political activist and a world traveler, having organized and led tour groups to southern France, Egypt and India. Formed out of a need for real Adventures in Sacred Travel, and founded in 1995 as an outgrowth of the Fifth Way Mystery School (be sure and look thru this site well) experience and as a way for our intrepid researchers and explorers to share their insights, Magickal Mystery Tours provides up-close and personal contact with the sacred traditions of pilgrimage. There's the tour, In The Footprints Of Fulcanelli which traveled in June from Paris to Hendaye. And Nostradamus' Provence are but a few. His many books will take you on beautiful spiritual journeys as well. My husband has always had Bridges books around and I finally picked up the Holy Grail one and became quite interested. Start at any of these web sites if this interests you, and you'll spend hours pouring over his many spirutual and literary adventures. ![]() |

Wednesday already? Good Wednesday morning/evening to you then.
"Nixon had a tighter grip as he peace sign'd on his way out to the goodbye chopper," says DongResin, describing Howard Dean's Iowa loser speech. I say, Physician heal thyself. Dean's just not wrapped very tightly. I don't want him to examine me, much less lead my country. If he gets the nomination, I'll support him. I mean, I damn sure won't be voting for the Dipshit Cowboy. But who's to say there's not some fabulous Independent wannabe waiting to throw their hat into the ring? Just as long as it's not another cowboy hat or the equally dismal Ralph Nadar. Dean has no idea how to present his best side to the country. We see him change right before our eyes according to the latest pundits and polls. I'd love to see someone sneak an idea to his handlers and tell him, "Voters love to see the candidates scratch their balls while howling at the moon." And then we can tune in the next day and watch him digging in by the moonlight. URLS Gone Wild!
Ohhh, Nooooo! No Child Left Behind, George? Guess Who? Music Plasma-via jwalk Caution: Another website owner wailing away about their stats. But as I look through my stats today, I'm really starting to rethink this whole Easy Bake Coven name. This site is now the #1 Google search for the word "Coven"? Kinda misleading, don't you think? For the uninitiated, I named this site after a "Simpsons" episode called, "Easy Bake Coven" in which Marge was thought to be a witch in colonial times, hilarity ensues, etc. I've met wonderful pagan people that I would have probably otherwise not have met which is great, but it's not what my site is about. Guess I didn't put enough thought into it when I got the domain name. I'd like to keep the domain name the way it is, but perhaps if I change the site name it may not rate so high when searching for all things coven-related. {quote for today} We don't see things as they are; we see things as we are. ~Ana?s Nin What the hell, go and put all your eggs in one basket.![]() |

Ah, Thursday....one of my seven favorites days of the week.
Cyberia: Life in the Trenches of Hyperspace, by Douglas Rushkoff
Rushkoff, a New York-based journalist, goes west to Berkeley for a look inside Cyberia-the emerging countercultural terrain of computer hackers, "smart" drugs, house music, and a range of alternate "cyberpunk" lifestyles and anarchic philosophies. This largely sympathetic report from the latest frontier will undoubtedly strike many older readers as outrageous, but others (especially those with clear memories of the 60's) may find much of the rhetoric familiar, even nostalgic. In fact, many of the ingredients hark back to the Berkeley scene of nearly three decades ago: the text is full of references to acid trips, pagan rituals, and Grateful Dead concerts, and even Timothy Leary puts in an appearance at a virtual reality demonstration. Go here to read it all online. Very informative. [via (ripping off): the most excellent stare] ::Black Table's Primer on Collegiate Preparedness A whole summer went by and now it's time to head back to the wonderful fairyland called college, where responsibility is kept to a minimum and partying is a club sport. New shoes, new haircuts, and new book bags -- why leave your penis out on all the fun? Back-to-school time not only means there is massive amounts of homework and studying to do, but also massive amounts of casual, consensual sex. So, dress your little feller up into something nice and comfortable before he goes trolling through the bushes.
